The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Charles David Warner, III. As the first Executive Director of USMH, Dr. Warner played a pivotal role in shaping our institution. We are profoundly grateful for his vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to making higher education accessible and affordable. His passion lives on in our mission, and his legacy continues to inspire us.

Charles David Warner III, 68, of Hagerstown, MD passed away at home, Wednesday, April 09, 2025.

Born February 2, 1957, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ivy Ella (Myers) Warner and the late Charles David Warner Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Jean (Teter) Warner.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hagerstown. He dedicated much of his life to education, music, and sailing. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and was a life-long musician and performer. He later went on to attend Shepherd University for his bachelor’s, Towson University for his master’s, and Virginia Tech for his EdD. He served as the first executive director of the University System of Maryland in downtown Hagerstown and Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services at Hagerstown Community College. He worked tirelessly to bring higher educational opportunities to our community and to make them accessible for all. He was a great friend and family man, admirable administrator and educator, and talented musician.

Charles is survived by daughters, Betsy Christina Warner and Molly Rebecca Warner; son, Charles David Warner IV; grandson, Augustus Samuel Oh; sister, Susan Virginia Stottlemyer; daughter-in-law, Diane Kim Warner; and future son-in-law, Josué López.

The Memorial Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, April 18, 2025, with Rev. Gregory P. Shook officiating, at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.

The family will receive friends and family two hours prior to the service from 12pm to 2pm.
