Dual Certification: Earn dual certification to teach PreK through 6th grade in Maryland—one of only two programs in the state offering this opportunity. FSU's bachelor's program is one of only two in Maryland to offer dual certification

Specialized Expertise: Gain an Early Childhood Education specialization through Frostburg State University, preparing you for a rewarding career. Graduate from a program that is nationally and state accredited by NCATE, NAEYC and MSDE.

Experienced Faculty: Learn from professors with real-world experience, including faculty who have spent over 15 years in preschool classrooms. Receive one-on-one mentorship to help you succeed.

Professional Development: Take part in our active Student Education Association chapter and start expanding your professional teaching network.

Program Requirements:

Early Childhood Specialization: Candidates must complete 24 credit hours focused on early childhood education to gain specialized knowledge and skills.

Dedicated Pathway: Please note that candidates are not permitted to minor in education, ensuring a focused and immersive experience in the major.

Phased Application Process: All candidates must submit applications for each phase of the program, ensuring they meet the necessary requirements and benchmarks for progression.

What You'll Learn

The early childhood/elementary program is a well-balanced preparation for teaching that includes challenging classroom assignments and extensive field experience working in our partner schools. The program explores early childhood historical, theoretical and philosophical foundations, learning environments, materials and methods, and the early childhood educator’s influence on and collaboration with the child's caregivers, families and communities.
