Graduates receive awards at USMH graduation reception

HAGERSTOWN – Several recent graduates from the participating universities at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown were awarded certificates for academic achievement and also student leadership and service.

Graduates who received awards for leadership and service were Ted Bulley of Hagerstown (Frostburg State University, Bachelor of Science in Business) for his involvement with Student Council and as president of the FSU Business Club; Jason Fenicle of Hagerstown (Frostburg State University, Master of Arts in Teaching – Elementary) for acting as president of the Frostburg Student Education Association (FSEA); Linsey Hartle of Hagerstown (Frostburg State University, Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Elementary Education) also for participating in FSEA and planning community reading events; Elizabeth Samford of Rockville (Towson University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing) for her community service and holding a board position with the Towson University Student Nursing Association at Hagerstown (TUSNAH); and Tasha Walls of Hagerstown (Salisbury University, Bachelor of Arts in Social Work) for her dedication to the Social Work programs and the community.

Graduates who received academic achievement awards were Renee Binau of Hagerstown (Towson University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Binau has earned her second degree and maintained a 4.0 GPA in her science courses. She also held an A/B average while completing the nursing program.

Courtney Brown from of Walkersville, MD (Frostburg State University, Bachelor of Science in Psychology) maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her education and has been on the dean’s list every semester in college.

Shayla Hoffman of Hagerstown (Salisbury University, Bachelor of Arts in Social Work) raised her GPA to a 4.0 and maintained this through the end of her coursework all while interning at the Maryland Correctional Training Center. She will continue to attend classes at USMH as she earns her Master of Social Work degree.

Zachary Malphurs of Hagerstown (Frostburg State University, Bachelor of Science in Business) is a military veteran who took an overload of classes each semester to finish his degree and held a 4.0 GPA throughout.

Jordan McDonald of Hagerstown (Frostburg State University, Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Elementary Education) has made the dean’s list and completed her coursework with a 4.0 GPA.

Florence Schmehl of Cumberland, MD (Frostburg State University, Master of Arts in Teaching – Elementary) was a member of the Frostburg Student Education Association (FSEA) and is a very motivated and dedicated individual.

USMH is proud of this year’s graduates and faculty and staff look forward to seeing all the great things they go on to accomplish.
